What is Fashion?

Fashion

Fashion is a style that changes over time. It is often influenced by culture, ethnicity, location and age. It is also affected by the media such as magazines, newspapers, TV and social networking sites. The media may promote or denigrate certain styles. People may wear a particular fashion to fit in with their peer group or to express themselves in an individual way. Fashion can be seen in clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories and hairstyles. It can be seen on runways in Paris, New York or Milan, but it can also be found in malls and markets around the world.

Trends in fashion are fast-paced, and it can be difficult to keep up. Fashion can be as simple as wearing a t-shirt with the latest logo or as complex as designing the next must-have garment. The most common way people express themselves through fashion is by dressing in a way that reflects their personal style and taste.

The fashion industry is a multibillion-dollar global enterprise that makes high-fashion designer clothes and mass-market everyday clothing. It is a highly influential form of popular culture. Fashion trends can be seen on the streets, in movies and television shows, in music videos and on the pages of magazines. Fashion can be as subtle as the bare mid-riffs of 1990s TV show Gossip Girl or as overt as the baggy pants worn by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Some people believe that the rapid pace of change in fashion reflects the underlying materialism of contemporary society. Others enjoy the diversity of styles and see a constant flow of new ideas as an essential part of modern life. Most of the styles that have ever been in fashion eventually “go out of fashion.” But even those that are discarded can reappear, as the low-rise jeans of the early seventies did.
